Indoor County Championship By The Numbers

As I updated Mocorunning's indoor county championship meet record book for next year, the following were notable revisions to the record book which monitors the top 25 performances in meet history for each event and maintains lists of every county champion in each event.

Paint Branch won its fifth boys indoor county title in meet history.

Blake won its second consecutive girls indoor county title.

The Wheaton girls (3rd) matched its highest finish in meet history and scored the most points it has in meet history (48).

Nicholas Spikes of Paint Branch broke meet records in the 55m and 300m: 6.40 and 34.47. It was the fastest flat track 300m ever recorded by an MCPS boy according to Mocorunning's records.

The boys 55m dash prelims and finals produced five top-11 performances in meet history including 6.40 by Nicholas Spikes, 6.42 by Montgomery Blair's Quentin Braithwaite (#3 all-time), and 6.48 by Paint Branch's Roman Spikes (#11 all-time).

The boys 300m produced three top-10 performances in meet history including 34.47 by Nicholas Spikes (#1), 35.46 by Quentin Braithwaite (#5), and 35.57 by Seneca Valley's Damilola Oyeniran (#10).

Iyanni Daley of Wheaton's performance of 7.04 in the 55m finals ranks #2 in meet history.

Brooke Cochran of Blake's 39.62 300m ranks #3 in meet history. She won her second consecutive 300m county title.

Grace Finnegan of Richard Montgomery's 2:18.31 800m ranks #2 in meet history.

The girls 1600m produced three top-7 performances in meet history and three more performances ranked top-25 in meet history. Katherine Morey of Churchill ranks #3 (5:02.48), Grace Finnegan of Richard Montgomery ranks #5 (5:06.46), Katie Greenwald of Whitman ranks #7 (5:07.01) in meet history.

Alejandro Berrio of Seneca Valley (4:26.54) was the first indoor county champion in the 1600m from Seneca Valley High School.

Katherine Morey of Churchill's 10:57.03 3200m ranks #4 in meet history.

Wheaton's 1:44.93 girls 4x200m relay ranks #5 in meet history. It was Wheaton's first 4x200m indoor county title in meet history.

Paint Branch's 1:31.80 boys 4x200m relay ranks #3 in meet history. It was Paint Branch's 10th 4x200m indoor county title in meet history.

Blake won its sixth girls 4x400m relay title (4:19.90) and fifth in the last six meets.

Walter Johnson won its sixth consecutive girls 4x800m relay (10:00.93) and 11th in meet history.

Walter Johnson won its 8th boys 4x800m relay (8:19.80) in meet history.

Sierra Swangin of Blake's 5-05.50 high jump ranks #12 in meet history. It was her second consecutive indoor county high jump title.

Chay Julien of Damascus became the first indoor long jump county champion (17-00.25) from Damascus and the first indoor triple jump county champion (36-03.00) from Damascus High School.

Kendall Wideman from Seneca Valley's 22-05.25 long jump ranks #6 in meet history. He was the first long jump indoor county champion from Seneca Valley High School.

Vance Bonior from Walter Johnson became the first athlete to win the highly unusual combination of triple jump (41-11) and shot put (45-05) indoor county titles. Bonior was also the first indoor county triple jump champion from Walter Johnson High School.

Jazmin Terry of Northwest was the first indoor county champion in the shot put from Northwest High School (34-11).
