Team Invites for
MD-VA Battle at
State Meets
Team VA and MD to do battle in one week
Bethesda, MD. (November 9, 2007). The Battle of the Potomac
Cross Country (XC) Staff will be onsite at both public school state XC
championship locations on Saturday November 10th to issue invitations
to top finishers in the boys and girls races. “The Battle
of the Potomac XC event is the only time that boys and girls who go head-to-head
during the regular in-state seasons can unite and race in a relaxed and
friendly competition against rival runners across the Potomac
River”, commented Dave Watt, Executive Director of the host
American Running Association. “Entry
fees for invited runners are waived, although donations will be
accepted”, added Watt.
Runners who receive an invitation at the Maryland or Virginia State Meets on Saturday
may commit on the spot for one of the 45 spots on each squad (girls and
boys). The other option is to
go to the event website (www.battlexc.com)
and click on the R.S.V.P button.
“Alternates will be added and may fill in for runners who cancel
or do not show on race day”, said Watt. The OPEN 5K races precede the premier
invitational 5K events and any high school runner may register.
Private school championship runners will be contacted via
email and phone calls along with postings on the BattleXC website and regional
websites Running Maryland, MoCo Running and Milesplit-VA. Runners’ performances at open
meets during the season will factor into the invitation process. Coaches and parents are asked to contact
the Battle of
the Potomac Staff to request or suggest invitations for deserving boy and girl

Battle XC
staff will issue invitations at the two state meets based on the following
criteria
MD State Meet Invitations will be
issued to the following finishers (boys and girls):
1A
Races: Top 10
2A
Races: Top 15
3A
Races: Top 15
4A
Races: Top 30 *Any girl who breaks 21:20
and any boy who breaks 18:01 is eligible
VA State Meet Invitations will be
issued to the following finishers (boys and girls):
A Races: Top 10
AA races: Top 20
AAA
races: Top 40 *Any girl who breaks 20:09 and any
boy who breaks 17:05 is eligible

. Entry fee is $17. Each runner receives a Nike FitDry
singlet, a goodie bag and the post-race chicken barbecue dinner at Smokey Glen
Farm. Top 20 finishers in the
invitational race receive medals.
Top 15 in the OPEN races get medals as well.
