Boys All-Freshman Team

The Mocorunning.com Boys All-Freshman Team is composed of a Freshman of the Year and the next ten talented young athletes with the most potential to be future stars. Results from indoor and outdoor track were used to assess the freshmen for this team (cross country season has its own All-Freshman Team). Additional bright young athletes are included as honorable mention.

Freshman of the Year

Anthony Winter (Magruder) - Anthony Winter was the only freshman in Montgomery County to qualify for the indoor state championship in an individual event. He finished seventh in the county, third in the region, and eighth in the state in the 55-meter dash with a season best time of 6.83. During outdoor track, he placed fourth in the 100-meter dash at the Montgomery County Championships with a season best time of 11.18.


Jeffrey Garcia (Montgomery Blair) - Jeffrey Garcia won the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 100-meter dash at the Montgomery County B Championship Meet. He will be looked upon to fill big shoes on the Blair relays next year.

Jordan Gear (Landon) - Jordan Gear had a season best jump in the long jump of 20-00.75 at the Draper Invitational. At the IAC Championship, he placed sixth in the long jump and split 52 seconds in the 4x400.

Sam Martin (Richard Montgomery) - An honorable mention athlete on the cross country all-freshman team, Martin has broken through to the very top in the 1600 this season. His time of 4:43.10 at the 4A West Regional Championship Meet was the fastest of any county freshman this year.

Chris Miller (Northwest) - The cross country freshman of the year chose not to compete in outdoor track, but clocked a 10:17.65 3200m for seventh place at the indoor Montgomery County Championship Meet.

Charlie Ramirez (Damascus) - Ramirez ranked among the top five freshmen in the county in both the 1600 (4:54.04) and 3200 (10:23.00).

Afolabi Shokunbi (Our Lady of Good Counsel) - Shokunbi ran the fastest freshman 800m time of the year at the Viking Invitational where he ran 2:06.05 for seventh place.

Bobby Sonken (Northwest) - Sonken focused on the 1600 during outdoor track. He placed fifteenth at the Montgomery County Championship with a season best time of 4:45.41.

Dan Spencer (Walter Johnson) - This soccer player took the county by surprise during outdoor track where he clocked a personal best time of 2:06.30 in the 800 and 4:50.98 in the 1600.

Sean Sutton (Our Lady of Good Counsel) - Sutton had season bests of 11.40 in the 100-meter dash and 22.85 in the 200-meter dash. He placed fifth at the WCAC Championship in the 200.

Alexander Willett (Walter Johnson) - Willett won the Montgomery County B Championship Meet 3200 and went on to place twelfth in the 3200 at the 4A West Region Championship Meet in a county freshman best time of 10:14.32.

He is listed as 14 years old in the summer track results.
