*Walter Johnson boys won Division I based on total points scored in all meets

The 2009 outdoor track dual meet season was marked as a year of rainouts. Teams competed in mostly chilly and rainy conditions throughout March and April when the storms were not accompanied by thunder and lightening. Dozens of meets were rescheduled throughout the season and still more were canceled if rescheduling was not possible.

Most division winners were able to finish the season undefeated. There was drama in the boys' division I. Walter Johnson took down Churchill in their early season meeting. Sherwood defeated Walter Johnson in a cold, miserable, and rainy meet at Georgetown Prep. Then in another stormy meet, Churchill defeated Sherwood causing a three way tie among the top teams. Not all events were contested in the meet between Sherwood and Churchill due to the heavy rains, lowering the overall point totals of each team. Walter Johnson won the division based on the highest point total across all meets.
