Mocorunning conducted the county championship poll before the release of the meet entries. Below you will read the poll results compiled and written before the release of the meet entries.

Between April 28 and May 5, MoCoRunning.com conducted an online poll to find out the county championship fan favorites. Participants were instructed to select their favorites in each event and rank the top teams for the outdoor county championship meet. 74 valid submissions were received, but voters were not required to vote for every category.

The county champion favorites are listed with the percentage of votes received.

Fans have predicted that the Northwest boys' four-year winning streak at the county championship will come to an end as it did this indoor season. Paint Branch proved worthy of the fans' top vote this indoor season when they swept county, region, and state titles. Has Gaithersburg also surpassed Northwest? Gaithersburg is going to spread around its talent to perform very well, but Northwest is still more loaded in field events than any other team. This writer is not counting out Northwest to return to the top.

The James DeMoss Award Winner for boys has been handed to a distance runner for the past four years, and that could very well extend to a fifth year this year. Eldad Mulugeta of Northwood is expected to dominate whichever events he chooses to enter with a Penn Relays 3k victory under his belt and personal bests of 4:15.89/9:04.58 extending back to the indoor season. But Northwest's Clarence Foote-Talley will be a candidate for the DeMoss Award if he can live up to fans' expectations from this poll. The triple jump meet record is in jeopardy if the state record holder has a good day.

Who has the 1600 now without the Northwood duo?

I would say Rodrigo Yepez-Lopez after a 4:18 mile indoors and 4:28 mile at Penn. Interesting he is only seeded at 4:36 and almost missed the fast heat because they did not use his mile time.

It seems as though the Walter Johnson coach has something against Yepez-Lopez as this is the second time he has under seeded his athlete almost costing him a fast heat yet again; he missed the fast heat at Katie Jenkins 800m, costing him the overall victory, due to his coach under seeding him. He ran a solo 1:59 but he was seeded at 2:09.

I guess the WJ coach went off season bests for the 800 at katie jenkins. He didn't use the mile time(4:27) he got at Penn for the 1600 which I'm pretty sure is allowed(if it isn't it should be). He used his season best 1600 4:36.

Can obsaa and Eldad go sub 9? A lot of the 3200 guys are much better than their season bests i think.

Teammates went 1-2 in the boys 3200 twice: 1980 (Seneca Valley) and 1993 (Quince Orchard). Never 1-2-3. That goes for boys or girls.

So obviously Northwood will becomes the third team to go 1-2. 1-2-3 may be in order as well
