Gaithersburg's Antonio Palmer has long been a star middle distance runner in Montgomery County. He won the 4A state title in the 800-meter run and had a high school PR of 1:53.66. He chose to attend Eastern Carolina University where he will run cross country and track. He says he chose ECU because of the diverse environment, limitless opportunities in academics, and strong athletic programs. Steven Ha Signs with Mount St. Mary's University

Solomon Haile to University of Arkansas

Solomon Haile of Sherwood High School has decided to attend the University of Arkansas this fall. Solomon says he was not seriously considering Arkansas until his final college visit. He really enjoyed the visit and feels that the schools suits him best. Arkansas was 28th at the 2008 NCAA National Cross Country Championship and will lose their top runner to graduation. Solomon will be expected to have an immediate impact on the team. He was also considering Auburn University and Oklahoma State University.

Arielle Statham Signs with UMD College Park

Arielle Statham of Paint Branch High School has signed with the University of Maryland - College Park on a full four year scholarship. This winter, Statham had one of the greatest indoor seasons ever by a Montgomery County athlete which included state titles in the 55-meter dash, 4x200-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, and the overall team 3A state title. At the Virginia Tech Invitational, Arielle jumped 39-feet and 10.25-inches in the triple jump which may be the best jump ever by a Montgomery County athlete. That triple jump mark exceeded the best high school mark of former Paint Branch Panther Toni Aluko, who went on to become an ACC track & field champion with the UMD Terrapins.

Wayne Bartholomew Signs with La Salle It is strange seeing Wayne Bartholomew wearing anything but red and black, but this Maryland 500m and 800m state champion will be sporting blue and gold for the next four years. Wayne will follow in the footsteps of his high school coach Seann Pelkey, who also graduated from QO and La Salle. Wayne is coming off a remarkable indoor season where he set the indoor state record in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 1:55.98. He will be reunited with former QO teammate David Laratta, who (with the help of Josh Joson and Ryan Priovolos) set the outdoor 4x800 state record in 2008.
