Watkins Mill proved me wrong once and they proved me wrong twice. I wouldn't dare pick against Watkins Mill a third time. All aboard the Watkins Mill bandwagon express! Tickets are good until at least 2012.

I'm not saying it will be easy. In fact, it's a long shot. They need several huge performances to pull it off. They could use two more inches out of high jumper Fola Akinnibi. They need Damiete Roberts to repeat his 44 foot triple jump from a few weeks ago, and William Yougnia and Daniel Upson need to run under 11.2 in the 100. They need to score big in all of the sprint relays and maybe even grab a point in the 4x800. Most importantly, they need Brandon Addison to show up and win gold in the 200 and 400. Addison is due for a big sub-49 performance in the open 400.

None of these things are unattainable, but most of these things were not done at the regional meet. It will probably take about 70 points to take down the strong teams from Reservoir of Howard County and Potomac of PG County.

Of course, I am not counting out the indoor state champions from Damascus. Their cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track "triple crown" is still within reach despite losing team leader Thomas Arias to a season-long injury suffered during the Nike Indoor Nationals Meet. Damascus is similar to Reservoir with a strong core of middle distance runners and throwers, and therefore they have the opportunity to cut down Reservoir in head-to-head competition. Take care of business in the 800 and 4x800 and get a big throw out of Jake Furr and they could take the bite out of Reservoir's bark.

Another rematch between Damascus and Watkins Mill in the 4x400 will be exciting to see at the end of the day. Who knows? Maybe the team title will come down to that race.

Check out Anthony Donnay-Wood of Blake behind the stadium as he competes for a discus state title in his first year (although he is senior). His mark of 148-03 is the top MCPS mark this year and earns him the second best seed in the competition.

Wilde Lake's star distance runner Kikanae Punyua will lead the 3200 field as five Moco distance runners, all coming off of breakout races, attempt to chase after him.

Wow u WM guys are pretty cocky there. No way they hang with Reservoir in the team competition. Look for Damascus to win the 4x8 4x4 and one of those 3 guys will win the 800. But I'm really excited to see how Sutton and Donnay-Wood from Blake do overall in the discus.

^ If Damascus does as well as you claim then Watkins Mill will be right with Reservoir if not ahead of them. While they do lack in the distance events they have qualified in every relay and are guaranteed points in 4x1, 4x2, and 4x4, all of which are possible 1st places with neither Reservoir or Damascus competing in the 4x1 or 4x2. This gives helps Watkins Mill while Reservoir and Damascus fight each other for points. But i do count on seeing Damascus win the 4x8.

Dmas is not cocky, I assure you these comments are not coming from the team. It’s not tolerated! They have always come to a meet and did their best! They also have respected other teams and their accomplishments. Please keep it RESPECTFUL…. How about everyone doing their best and do it for ROBERT YIN who lost his life in a Pole Vault accident.

the boys 3200 should be good!! i see Kikanae Punyua running away will it. i think some moco boys will give him a race in the beginning but i don't see any of them hanging with him. he will probably double in the 3200 and 1600.
