Here I make predictions and discuss some, but not all, of this week's dual meets. It is important for coaches to send in results after their dual meets so that the standings can be maintained accurately. Coaches, at the bare minimum, please send in scores. Some coaches also choose to type the finish times of the athletes. You can send results in just about any format whether that is cutting and pasting into the email or including an attachment such as an html file, word document, excel spreadsheet, adobe, etc. Send results to webmaster@mocorunning.com.

Division I

The Walter Johnson boys should be a head above Damascus and Northwest this week, but the matchup between Damascus and Northwest should be one of the closer ones. On Northwest's home course, Damascus must make sure freshman Moses Watson doesn't make a wrong turn. Northwest will get a win over Damascus by a small margin.

The WJ girls are one of the few teams that could challenge Northwest in a dual meet, but they showed at Woodward Relays that they don't stand a chance if any one of their top five runners is out. Given that Maria Moersen has missed time recently, WJ probably does not stand a chance at beating Northwest and will need to watch out so that Damascus doesn't pack it in behind Camille Bouvet and Anna Bosse.

Division II

From Gettysburg to Gaithersburg... Richard Montgomery has looked impressive early this season and both the boys and girls teams should get wins over Gaithersburg and Magruder.

Meanwhile, there is a hugely important and unpredictable meet going down at Smokey Glen between Sherwood and Quince Orchard. The Sherwood boys had the advantage at almost every spot at the Magruder Invitational, but only by a matter of seconds. With home field advantage and maybe a little revenge on their minds, expect the Quince Orchard boys to keep this race close. The Sherwood girls looked very strong at the Magruder Invitational and should start out the dual meet season with a win over QO.

Division III

The Einstein boys and the Clarksburg girls are easy picks for the double win in the opening tri meet at the Rockville Civic Center. The race for second place may be more interesting, especially on the boys side. Rockville has a little bit of young talent as shown by Jonaton Baginski's win in the freshman race at the Magruder Invitational, but as it stands now, Clarksburg still looks deeper.

Division IV

Division IV teams put it all on the line right off the bat as Blake hosts Paint Branch, Watkins Mill, and Kennedy. The boys race will come down to Paint Branch vs. Blake. The Magruder Invitational indicates that Blake should be favored slightly, but if PB's #1 runner Hayder Cherinet returns to action and wins the race, things could be completely different as Blake does not appear to be very deep.

The girls race could come down to who gets five girls across the line. None of the teams had five girls finish at the Magruder Invitational or HoCo Invitational. Paint Branch certainly has five girls while Kennedy looks pretty strong through four girls.
