Due to heavy rains and flooding, we had several canceled meets in the last week including the Magruder Invitational. Here are some of the key matchups of which we were deprived.

Wootton vs. B-CC girls - Fan votes were nearly split between these two teams as the second best team in the county behind Whitman. Wootton and B-CC are not in the same division and will not meet this season until the Bull Run Invitational.

Wootton vs. Churchill vs. Good Counsel boys - Churchill and Good Counsel will collide at the Oatlands Invitational this weekend, but Wootton and Good Counsel will not meet at all this season. Churchill and Wootton will avoid each other for a few more weeks until they meet at the Bull Run Invitational and again three days later in a tri-meet with Walter Johnson.

Each week I will pick winners from all of the division meets just for fun. I will highlight some (not all) of the key matchups in each division.

Division I

Quince Orchard @ Walter Johnson
Quince Orchard boys look to be one of the most improved teams in the county this year after taking second place at the Peter Geraghty Invitational. Walter Johnson also surprised many people by defeating Churchill at the Woodward Relays. This is a difficult first head-to-head meet for both teams.

Division II

Bethesda Chevy Chase @ Walt Whitman
The B-CC girls are very much improved from last year and will get their first crack at the defending state champions. Whitman has been dominant in winning the Peter Geraghty Invitational and Woodward Relays already this season. This will likely be the toughest divisional race for either team.

Division III

Springbrook @ Clarksburg
The Springbrook girls could be a little better than people are expecting.

Division IV

Kennedy, Wheaton, Paint Branch @ Blake
Wheaton has two Mocoruning ranked runners, but the depth of each of these teams is unclear at this point.

Wheaton had a freshman run 20:09 as their third runner at Mount St. Mary's but it's true they don't look too deep. I only saw one Blake boy break 20 minutes at Barnhart.

It seems like the Einstein boys have a very strong shot at becoming the 2011 Division champs.
