Division I

Every once in a while I have to pull out pen and paper and write out every competitor's name and go through all the scenarios. Like many other people, I loved Wootton's boys in the preseason, but I think Wootton needs nothing short of an outstanding team effort to beat Quince Orchard this week. Certainly if they race like they did against Sherwood, I think QO runs away with the win. At the very least, it is a dangerous match up for Wootton, who is hoping to be undefeated entering next week's tri meet against Churchill and Walter Johnson. It is a race that I would love to watch unfold, especially at Smokey Glen Farm, but with an obligation at 2pm, I won't be able to make the hike that far up I-270 in time.

Don't think I didn't have to jot out some scenarios for the Wootton vs. QO girls. Wootton may be a little unpredictable this year, but they definitely have depth and they will beat a lot of teams even if one or two of their top runners have bad races.

Division II

A tri-meet with Damascus, Whitman and Magruder got moved out to October 4, which means the Division II spotlight is solely on Poolesville vs. B-CC this week. The B-CC girls will run away from the Poolesville girls, but the boys matchup is intriguing. I give Poolesville the edge with a strong top four running well right now, while B-CC had a couple injury issues last week. If B-CC gets a few runners back healthy, they can steal this one from Poolesville by packing guys in front of Poolesville' #5 guy.

Division III

Last week I predicted the Springbrook girls would be better than many people expect and that proved to be true. Springbrook only lost to Clarksburg by four points, and now it is time for Springbrook to earn some wins for the first time in many years. There is potential for Springbrook to secure victory with top-3 sweeps against Einstein and Gaithersburg.

The Einstein boys are the strongest team in this tri-meet, but Gaithersburg will give them a good race.

Division IV

The Paint Branch boys certainly surprised my with their relative depth in the quad meet at Blake last week. Unless Watkins Mill is hiding some talent that wasn't there last year, Paint Branch and Northwood boys will roll this week until they collide two weeks from now.

As for girls, there are not many of them. Northwood vs. Kennedy will probably determine the division champion next week.

Poolesville boys should have absolutely no problem with B-CC
