Division I

The Sherwood boys are coming off a victory at the Track and Trail Invitational while the B-CC boys had the weekend to think about their one point loss to Wootton last week. Through four runners, B-CC is about as strong as any team in the county, but Wootton squeezed ten boys in before B-CC's fifth man last week to win by a single point. The matchup between B-CC and Sherwood will play out similarly with one major difference: Peter Horton will win this race, which could give B-CC that decisive two point swing it needed against Wootton.

The B-CC girls team has had a few races to get healthy and fit and this week will face a team that in my opinion is the best county girls team not defending a state title. Quince Orchard has a talented girls squad that won the Track and Trail Invitational over the weekend and runs its home course well. B-CC should still come out on top in this battle for Division I.

Division II

The girls teams from Richard Montgomery, Einstein, and Northwest are all showing that they did a little bit of running over the summer and began the season ready to compete. Interesting matchups will play out for the rest of the season between these teams as Einstein does not face Northwest for three more weeks. The Einstein girls should beat Poolesville and WJ while Northwest and RM will go at it in a close one.

Poolesville hosts Einstein and Walter Johnson in what should be a fantastic showdown between the two best boys teams in Montgomery County so far this year. Walter Johnson defeated Einstein easily at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, but Einstein looked like a different team in winning the William and Mary Invitational 'A' race. This will be the most loaded field of runners to race at John Poole Middle School since the site hosted the county championship in 2002. In fact, if there was a tri-meet at John Poole between the top three teams in 2002 (Northwest, Damascus, Magruder), I would argue that this week's tri-meet is more loaded than that. Given the competitive field, if it does not rain too much on Tuesday, I predict that someone (perhaps Chase Weaverling) will shatter Chase Weaverling's course record of 17:03 by over a minute.

Division III

The Clarksburg girls got past Springbrook last week, but I think they are in trouble this week against Blair and Damascus. Abbey Daley will win her fifth race of the year, but the Blair girls will come away with a 3-0 record.

Division IV

Blake does not have many experienced girls returning this season, but Blake had a solid showing at the Barnhart Invitational with a team of FIVE FRESHMEN and a sophomore sprinter. Northwood has a few freshman girls of their own and will try to spoil Blake's undefeated division record in a quad meet at Blake.
