Things got started with the boys and girls 110-meter/100-meter hurdles. On the boys side, Derrick Powell of Northwood cruised to an easy win in about 16 seconds. The next event on the track was the boys and girls 4x8. I led off and gave us the early lead. Through the next two legs the lead began to shrivel. The Gladiator's had about a 20-25 meters lead over Blake going into the final leg. With about 250 meters to go, Blake caught and passed Northwood to take the lead and the win. The girls race was also won by Blake.
The boys 100-meter dash involed 55-meter dash county champ, Jamal Lynn of Seneca Valley. From the start Lynn was ahead and never looked back taking the win. He also had a first place finish in the open 200-meter winning in a fast 23 seconds. He also ran impressive legs on the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relays which also had first place finishes. The girls 100-meter dash was won by Blessing Showunmi. Showunmi also grabbed first in the open 200 meter, edging out a Blake runner in a down-to-the-line finish.
Following the 100m-dash was the 1600m-run. Kyle Gaffney of Blake ran away with it in 4:53 to take first. I followed him to take 2nd. Gaffney also won the 3200-meter run and took second in the 800-meter.
The open 400-meter run was won by Derrick Powell who dominated the rest of the field to win going away in about 53 seconds. Powell also contributed a nice leg to his 4x4 team which finished first. For the girls' 400-meter run, Blake edged out Seneca and Northwood to win in about 1:12. The Blake girls were also able to take first place in the 4x1 and 4x2. They also won the 1600-meter run and 800-meter run.
In the boys 300m hurdles, Blake beat out two Northwood runners to win in 47s. The open 800-meter run was pretty slow-paced, but I was able to hold off Gaffney of Blake to grab the win.
In the field events, the Blake boys won the high jump, triple jump and long jump. Northwood got 2nd in each of those three events.
Final Scores are on the way.
