I can't recall the last time a county male competed in the long jump at the Penn Relays. This year one of the best ever in Montgomery county will be stepping on the runway. Often the field gets overlooked but Gaston Assoua towers over everyone else in the county. Tall and lean with amazing runway speed Assoua has gone from being an unknown at Springbrook to being the most versatile athlete in the county at Blake. He triple jumps 45, high jumps 6-2 and runs relays. But his event is the long jump. He broke Gary Frazier's indoor county record earlier this winter by a foot and seven inches and ended the meet at 23-00. He finished 9th at the New Balance Indoor Nationals and is undefeated against area competition this spring. In front of 35,000 people on Saturday look for Assoua to continue his march to become the best long jumper in county history.
Homestretch runway, 12:00pm Saturday.
