Editor's note: Mocorunning conducted the county championship poll before the release of the meet entries. Below you will read the poll results compiled and written before the release of the meet entries.

Between May 1 and May 8, MoCoRunning.com conducted an online poll to find out the county championship fan favorites. Participants were instructed to select their favorites in each event and rank the top teams for the outdoor county championship meet. 75 valid submissions were received, but voters were not required to vote for every category.

The county champion favorites are listed with the percentage of votes received.

On the boys side, the Northwest boys look to be the favorite once again. Shyheim Wright is the county's leader in the 110 hurdles and gathered 79% of the fan vote, one of the highest numbers in the entire poll. He will be shooting for his fourth (and fifth) individual county titles in his career. The only other hurdler with a sub-15 time this season is his teammate, Andrew Daniels; Daniels and Wright are also 1-2 in the county rankings in the 300 hurdles by a fairly wide margin.

The Northwest boys also had a strong showing in the relays, winning the fan vote in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. They lead the county in all three relays so far this season, and with their depth they have the potential to win all three. No boys team has won all three relays in the county meet since Watkins Mill in 2010.

Richard Montgomery's Rohann Asfaw had the highest percentage of votes in an event, gathering 80.7% in the 3200. His 9:11 two mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals is 25 seconds faster than any Moco runner has run so far this outdoor season. He was also voted first in the 1600, which he leads the county in this outdoor season. He showed during the indoor season that he can handle the double at the county championships. It's not easy - the last boy to do it at the outdoor county championships was BCC's Elias Tousley in 2007 - but Asfaw has a good chance to do it this year.

On the other side, Quince Orchard's Gregory D'Elia received the fewest amount of votes in winning the fan vote in the high jump. He gathered just 28% of the vote, and for good reason - seven boys currently share the top spot at the top of the outdoor county rankings, all at 6'2. And that doesn't even include D'Elia's teammate Dylan Bikim, the two-time state champion in the event! The high jump is already hard enough to predict without having at least one guy who stands out among the rest - it's truly anybody's guess as to who will win this year.

Records that could fall: Andrew Daniels should challenge the record of 38.91 in the 300 hurdles set just two years ago by Wootton's Alan Banks. Blake's Ty Mason, who won the emerging elite section of New Balance Indoor Nationals with a long jump of 23'5.50, could break the oldest standing record of 22'8.75 set back in 1980. And if Northwest runs an 'A' team 4x400 they could break the record of 3:22.12 set in 2011.

How about that Blair Boys 4x800m performance at Counties? MoCo Running's article about them vs Churchill in the Screaming Eagles recap is proving to have been prescient. It will be interesting to see the rubber match at Regionals (and maybe a fourth tilt at States).
