Mocorunning Story
The Jamaican-born Sherwood athlete wants nothing more than to jump
against the world's best prep athletes at the prestigious Philadelphia meet. His 47-02.50 mark to start the outdoor campaign might get him there, but it has
been a winding road he traveled.
Ray Boss, father, husband,
and track official, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017, as a result of a heart attack.
Arrangements will be held at: Derwood Alliance Church,
16501 Redland Road, as follows:
Visitation: Sunday, February 19 - 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Memorial Service: Monday, February 20 - 11:00 a.m.
The outpouring of support for this tribute was incredible. It was a testament to Ray's character
and impact on the Montgomery County track & field communitiy.
Alexis Postell is competing at the highest level this season.
She has run under 8.20 in the 55-meter hurdles in three meets so far this season and most recently set a personal best time of 8.12 at the Private School
Invitational at Georgetown Prep. The time ranks #5 all-time by a Montgomery County athlete, but she is not done yet. The Bullis senior has witnessed the
evolution of the nationally renowned track program ever since its early stages when the school's first ISL track title was still a dream. The school's track
success has afforded Postell and her teammates the opportunity to travel and see many different regions of the country along the way. Mocorunning explores her
experience in this interview.

*Seneca Valley won girls division IV on fewest points tiebreaker. In the event of a tie, the team that has defeated the other team(s) with which it is tied will be the champion.
If there is still a tie, then the tie will be broken by the lowest combined points scored in division meets.
If a tie still remains, the largest combined margin of victory among the teams that are tied will be used.
Poolesville's Nandini Satsangi notched her first major invitational victory with a time of 19:03. Ryan
Lockett finished second in 16:30. Mud and rain were factors.
Landon experienced a spike
in participation in the 13th rendition of its signature home invitational. Cady Hyde of St. John's and Wesley Feldman of Landon ran away with Brown Race
individual titles. What's with this "White" and "Brown" stuff anyways? Read Mocorunning's recap.
Gaithersburg High School debuted the new 4A West Regional XC Course on Sept 20 in a quad meet, coincidentally against all 3A schools.
Mocorunning was on site to scope out the new course, take photos, and ask questions.
Richard Montgomery's Rohann Asfaw became just the second Maryland runner to ever win the Varsity 'A' race at the Oatlands
Invitational. Green of Walter Johnson shaved 49 seconds off her time from the same course a year ago. WJ girls, Good Counsel boys were top Maryland
teams.
Walter Johnson's
Abigail Green debuted junior season with 17:54.7 5k (a 2:05 margin of victory). Rohann Asfaw of Richard Montgomery won the boys large school race in 16:10.
Northwest boys and Wootton girls won team titles
The race had no official scores and no
official timing. I can only report the winning boys and girls times: Jimmy Vazzana of Good Counsel was the first male finisher in 17:20 while Claudia Wendt of
Good Counsel was the first female finisher in 20:54.
"We definitely want to win states," said senior Zoe Nuechterlein. "That's our main focus...everything is with that end goal in mind at the end of the
season."
Believe it or not,
Walter Johnson won four consecutive cross country state titles twice before in school history. The girls team did it from 1996 to 1999 and the boys team did
it from 2008 to 2011. Head coach Tom Martin said that it is too early to tell exactly what they have, but a fourth consecutive state title could potentially
be in the cards.
"We are all as one," continued
Quansah. "There is no such thing as 'oh, he's not from Africa or he was born somewhere else.' I bought the shirts so that we could all be one. It doesn't
matter. We are all a team and we all have the same goals and we're trying to go for the state title."
