UPDATE:
Many of you may have read reports in Friday's Washington POST Sports Section that indicated that Indoor Track was Saved.... for now. The operative phrase is "for now". The story's headline is not a complete victory regarding the "preservation" of indoor track in Fairfax County Schools. If... all of Dr Dale's budget submission's assumptions hold true, then Indoor Track will be spared in the submitted budget request to the County School Board. We need to focus on a key point before anyone assumes that INDOOR TRACK has indeed been saved from the budget chopping block:
* "Paul Regnier, a spokesman for Fairfax County schools, said the county's 25 high school indoor track programs are only safe "for the time being," noting Superintendent Jack D. Dale's proposal assumes a transfer of aid from the Board of Supervisors, assistance from the state and help in assuming anticipated costs for the expected addition of 5,000 students." ------>Washington Post, Jan 10 p EO7, BJ Koubarloulis
* Assumes a small percentage increase in the overall budget for FY 2010 from last year's budget to cover the projected addition of students. Fairfax County's Board of Supervisors allot a lump sum but do not shape the budget; the School Board enacts the budget.
*January 21st SPEAKERS LIST is FULL. Anyone who signed up last Friday will be notified later this week. A complete list of speakers should be posted before the meeting.
---->There will be a second Public Hearing on January 27th at Luther Jackson Middle School. We encourage any student and parent who was shutout of signing up to speak on January 21st to sign up now. (CLICK HERE to sign up online for the January 27th Public Hearing Part 2.
January 21 "TEAM RED" Plan:
*Location: Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church
*Hearings start at 6 p.m.
*We will meet outside the School Parking lot at 5:15 pm. Wear RED tees! Students and parents can form a line near the entrance to show solidarity. Soon after the auditorium is available, we encourage all Students and Parents in RED to gain a seat before the Public Hearing begins.
Public Hearing Speakers: Tell your own unique story. Try not to repeat the same mantra from other speakers. Be polite and respectful to the Board Members and definitely do not exceed the 3 minute time limit. Practice your speech at home and make sure you stay under 3 minutes.
Thank you for your support. GET YOUR RED ON ....AGAIN at the January 21 and 27 Public Hearings!
