Jim Vollmer Invitational History | |
The Jim Vollmer Invitational was named for the Montgomery County Commissioner of Officials of 32 years. Vollmer was also the head starter at the outdoor track state championship meet, the head cross country coach at Poolesville High School, and the head track coach at Watkins Mill High School at the time of his tragic passing in 2014. Vollmer died due to a heart attack on the weekend of the outdoor track state championship meet in 2014. In 2016, Watkins Mill launched the inaugural Jim Vollmer Invitational and dedicated the 1600-meter races in his honor.
